ADVANCED HAIR ARTISTRY AND WIG WORK COURSE

Learn to create intricate hair styles and complex period looks. Our Advanced Hair Artistry course provides you with the hands-on experience to progress your career in the industry. You’ll learn to master a range of modern and period looks, using wigs and hair pieces.

Our tutors have designed this course to specifically target the precise skills required for this area of the UK film industry. Discover historical hairdressing techniques that are no longer taught in mainstream hairdressing. During this 4 week course you’ll be assessed on advanced skills in hair styling including wig fitting and creating a period looks from 20th century, 18th Century, early and late Victorian era and Avant Guard.

Applicants will need experience in hair to attend this course.There is a further 2 weeks of barbering (equiv. level 2) to further consolidate the barbering skills required in the industry that can be added to extend this course to 6 weeks.

The team at The Iver Make-up Academy have many years’ experience working on some of the best known films and TV productions in recent years. They will introduce you to the latest products and techniques that are relevant to today’s industry, so you can be sure you’re learning from the best.

Entry requirements: 18+ and completion of our Certificate in Make-up and Hair Artistry course or a recognised qualification in hair. A practical test is required to assess your hair skill level.

Course Payment: A full payment is required to secure a place on this make-up course. We have several options to help fund your make-up course including interest free payment plans, bursaries and loans.

Please note that if you are enrolling on our Advanced or Intermediate Make-up and Hair Artistry Certificate courses, then the Comprehensive Airbrushing course is already included as a module.

  • Application and care of HD lace wigs as used on major feature films
  • Techniques to steam, set and dress acrylic wigs
  • How to set and dress men’s period hair and wigs
  • Wet setting wigs
  • Male period hair setting using tongs, barrel and pin curls
  • Making facial hair
  • Wig making basics
  • Making switches and clusters
  • How to build a cage and use padding to support a hairstyle
  • How to make a wig fit perfectly when not tailor-made for the actor
  • How to blend the actor's hairline into the wig
  • How to understand hair continuity

Our tutors regularly work in the TV, film and fashion industry, and you will be learning from them in the friendly, informal atmosphere of our practical, hands-on training workshops. Our studios are based right in the heart of the UK’s film industry, at Pinewood Studios, so there really is no better place to immerse yourself in the craft.

All our class demonstrations are projected onto an HD screen, allowing every student to have a close-up view of the action. Students are encouraged to practice all the new techniques they learn with our tutors, who will then view & assess their finished work on an HD screen under studio lighting conditions. Our tutors will then provide constructive feedback on each completed task to help students learn and improve their skills.
