MEDIA MAKE-UP AND HAIR COURSE

Our media make-up course has been designed to give you a thorough introduction to make-up and hair to suit the needs of today’s media industry. The course covers all the vital skills required to create a range of professional looks including media presenter, red carpet events and male grooming looks.

During our course, you will learn how to master professional hairstyling techniques using heated rollers, tongs, straighteners and blow dryers, and how to apply hair pieces and clip-in extensions. You will also study the correct use of products and tools, facial anatomy and the principles of shading and highlighting for a wide range of media roles, including make-up for different skin tones, and young and mature skin. Health and safety practices will also be a very important part of this course. Throughout this 3 week course, you will be able to view all your work on a monitor under studio lighting conditions, and you will be assessed on all skills, from application techniques to creativity.

At the end of the 3-week short course, you will have learned the make-up and hair techniques to successfully work on media presenters in TV, film, and events. You will also have gained experience putting together finished looks under different lighting conditions.

Entry requirements: Must be aged 18+. You don’t need to have any previous make-up experience as the course starts with the basics and builds from these skills. All we ask is that you have a passion and dedication to learn and can prove a level of artistic ability.

Course Payment: A full is required to secure a place on any make-up course. We have several options to help fund your make-up course including interest-free payment plans, bursaries, and loans.

Modules

• Basic Media Make-up and Hair

  This course will take place over 3 weeks.

  • Welcome, introduction, kit check and basic health and safety
  • Introduction to media make-up and familiarisation with products
  • Understanding facial anatomy
  • Make-up techniques for foundation, highlighting, concealing, correcting, blush, eyes, eyebrows and false lash application and lips
  • Colour analysis for different skin tones
  • Skin analysis for working on young and mature skins
  • Use of hair products
  • Hair techniques including the use of heated rollers, tongs, straightening and blow drying
  • Directional setting
  • Applying hair pieces and extensions
  • Creation of complete male grooming looks
  • Putting together complete looks including TV presenter, red carpet and bridal

  This course is also a part of our most Advanced Certification in Make-up and Hair Artistry

Our tutors regularly work in the TV, film and fashion industry, and you will be learning from them in the friendly, informal atmosphere of our practical, hands-on training workshops. As we’re based at Pinewood Studios, our studios are right in the heart of the UK’s film industry, so there really is no better place to immerse yourself in the craft.

All our class demonstrations are projected onto an HD screen, allowing every student to have a close-up view of the action. Students are encouraged to practice all the new techniques they learn with our tutors, who will then view & assess their finished work on an HD screen under studio lighting conditions. Our tutors will then provide constructive feedback on each completed task to help students learn and improve their skills.
