1950s Period Hair and Makeup Look for a Film Created by an Iver Academy Trained Artist

PERIOD MAKE-UP, HAIR AND WIG WORK COURSE

Learn the basics of period make-up, hair and wig work on our 3 week short course. Designed to teach you the skills you need to work in today’s HDTV, film and theatre industries, this course covers a range of different professional techniques from applying wigs and hair pieces, to setting and styling the finished look.

The course will begin with teaching you how to accurately research historical looks. You’ll also gain experience in preparing and applying a range of hair pieces including switches, clusters, wefts and full wigs. The final stage of this short course gives you the chance to create a range of period hair and make-up looks including 1920s, 1940s, 1960s and Edwardian looks. Throughout this 3 week course you will be able to view all your work on a monitor under studio lighting conditions, and you will be assessed on all skills, from application techniques to creativity.

At the end of this short course in period hair and make-up you will have the skills to successfully create period looks for TV, film and theatre. You will have gained experience creating iconic period make-up and hair looks and will know period hairstyling techniques including pin curling, marcel waving and finger waving.

Entry requirements: Must be aged 18+

    • Basis of period work and historical research techniques
    • Application of switches, clusters, wefts ,wigs and toupees
    • Blocking and washing wigs and hair pieces
    • 1960s hair and make-up project
    • 1940s hair and make-up project
    • 1920s hair and make-up project
    • “No make-up” looks
    • Edwardian hair and make-up project
    • Victorian hair and make-up project, including hair styling with hot rods, dowelling and Apollo knots

    This course is also a part of our most Advanced Certification in Make-up and Hair Artistry

Course Tutors

Our fantastic course tutors have a huge passion for their job, and they have amassed years of experience working with the latest products and techniques used in today’s industry. Our tutors regularly work in the TV, film and fashion industry, and you will be learning from them in the friendly, informal atmosphere of our practical, hands-on training workshops. As we’re based at Pinewood Studios, our studios are right in the heart of the UK’s film industry, so there really is no better place to immerse yourself in the craft.

All our class demonstrations are projected onto an HD screen, allowing every student to have a close-up view of the action. Students are encouraged to practice all the new techniques they learn with our tutors, who will then view & assess their finished work on an HD screen under studio lighting conditions. Our tutors will then provide constructive feedback on each completed task to help students learn and improve their skills.
